Robotic Surgery
da Vinci Surgical System
A robotic surgical system made by the American company Intuitive Surgical is known as da Vinci Surgical System. The design of it is done to facilitate a minimally invasive approach for surgery. A surgeon can control it from a console. For prostatectomies, cardiac valve repair and gynecologic surgical procedures, surgeons use this system. In the year 2012, surgeons used it in approximately 200,000 surgeries, most of which where hysterectomies and prostate removals. There are different parts of the system. There is a surgeon’s control, which is normally placed in the same room where the operation takes place. The other part is a patient-side cart that has four interactive arms. The surgeon can control these arms from the console. For tools that hold objects, the surgeon uses three of the arms. There can be a camera in one of the arms. They can also act as scissors, scalpels, graspers or bovies. Based on the model, there can be three or four robotic arms, which the surgeon can manoeuvre by using the console’s controls. A human is necessary to operate the da Vinci system. The use of da Vinci surgery is becoming more and more popular in India. Many patients from the developed countries in the world come to India for this surgery as it is less costly here. A reputed medical tourism agency in Kolkata provides the necessary guidance to these patients.
Advantages
Robotic Cancer Surgery
It becomes possible for the surgeon to perform a radical operation with preservation of nerves and other critical structures due to better visualization in robotic technique during cancer surgery. In India, this surgery is done at a very reasonable cost. The best medical tourism companies in India give the necessary information about this to any foreign patient wishing to come to India for this surgery.
